Burney and Burney was founded in 1992 by Billy C. Burney and his son Billy C. Burney, II. Billy C. Burney is a retired Alabama Circuit Judge from Lawrence County. He retired from the bench after twenty years of service. In addition to serving as a circuit court judge, he also served as the District Attorney of Lawrence County and has served as Special Supreme Court Justice on the Alabama Supreme Court. After retiring from the bench he opened a solo practice in Decatur. When his oldest son Billy Burney, II graduated from law school they created Burney and Burney. His youngest son, J. Brent Burney joined the law firm in 1995 and the firm has steadily increased its caseload steadily ever since. As a result, the firm outgrew its original location in 2007 and relocated to 433 Johnston Street SE to a turn off of the century two story brick bungalow that has been fully restored and provides four conference rooms and ample space for mediations, depositions and conferences. Over the last twenty years, the firm has provided thousands of individuals with quality legal service and boast a combined 85 years of courtroom experience. Burney and Burney is proud of its reputation of hard work and ethical representation of individuals from all walks of life. While Judge Burney has assumed an of-counsel role, he is still active in the management of the firm and provides insight that he has acquired over the years to the unique legal issues that arise in the firm.
